HOW MARKING WORKS
Where the marks actually go
A General Paper essay is marked on two ladders, 30 marks for content and 20 for language, and each ladder is a set of band descriptors. Content is placed by how far the essay answers the question that was set: the terms in it, the scope it asks for, and whether each example is explained or only named. An essay full of examples can still sit in a middle band, because examples that are listed and never weighed against the question do not move it up.
Length does not move an essay up a band. A shorter essay that answers the exact question, with each example explained, is placed above a longer one that drifts. And language has its own 20 marks, so clear and accurate sentences earn marks that ambitious vocabulary used wrongly loses.
WHAT YOU GET
Write it as you would in the paper
You practise real H1 General Paper essay questions and answer them the way you will on the day. Type them, photograph your handwritten working, or draw straight onto the screen. It comes back marked immediately, ladder by ladder. You see the band each part of the essay reached and what the next band up asks for, rather than a single total and a model essay. If an explanation does not land, you can ask for the same thing again in plain words.
